A Permission To Approach (or PTA) was a Culture communications signal represented in standard nonary Marain. A PTA was used to request closer contact in socially-awkward[1] or security-sensitive situations.[2]
The signal was many millennia old by the 24th century CE by which time it was rarely used, having been made redundant by the technology that created the neural lace.[1]
