Feli Vitrouv was a female pan-human resident of the Culture's Masaq' Orbital. She was a wing-flier and a Disposable.[1]
Appearance[]
Feli has wild black hair and deep brown skin, with hard muscles.[1]
History[]
Mahrai Ziller wished to watch the sport of wing-flying and invited Kabe Ischloear to watch with him. Feli accompanies both of them as they watch a group of wing-fliers engage in the sport and as Feli herself prepares to fly.[1]
During this time, Ziller engages Feli in a conversation about the nature of "cheating" and the seemingly-hypocritical nature of Culture citizens to cheat. For example, Ziller notes that wing-fliers are engaged in a sport and yet will make use of aircraft to ascend from the ground to the blimps from which the jump off from, which avoids the challenge of the sport. Ziller brings up another example, in which wing-fliers use aircraft which are controlled by artificial intelligences that will not let the occupants die or be injured, taking away the risk that an extreme sport provides.[1]
Feli explains that although some people are purists who does everything naturally without assistance, she does wing-flying for fun, and she accepts tradeoffs in order to make the sport more fun and safe,[1]
Ziller continues, questioning why Feli bothers wing-flying at all, as all of it could be replicated in VR. Further, as someone who confronts actual danger in the sport, Ziller questions whether Feli despises those people who are wing-fliers in VR without risk. Feli's answer is that she simply finds it more fun to be doing the sport in reality and ends the conversation as she jumps off the blimp and flies.
